May was filled with musical opportunities for Port Chester High School band students, who experienced everything from professional mentorship to high-stakes performances and community celebrations.
May 15: Masterclass with Professor Michael Struzik
Kicking off the month, band students welcomed Professor Michael Struzik, a faculty member at SUNY Potsdam and a seasoned NYSSMA adjudicator. His visit focused on workshopping the students’ pieces in preparation for the NYSSMA Majors Festival. Professor Struzik’s insights offered students a deeper understanding of musical interpretation and performance readiness.

May 21: U.S. Navy Jazz Band Visit
A highlight of the month was the visit from the U.S. Navy Jazz Band Commodores, the premier jazz ensemble of the Navy. The Commodores performed for band classes and then led sectionals, offering students hands-on coaching and inspiration from some of the nation’s top military musicians.


May 27: Drumline Leads Senior College Parade
To wrap up the month, the PCHS Drumline helped lead the school’s first-ever Senior College Parade, celebrating the Class of 2025. With rhythmic energy and school pride, the drumline set the tone as seniors marched in their college gear, cheered on by students and staff.
