Dear Ramily,

I am thrilled to announce the kickoff of our Rams Saturday Academy! This exciting initiative is designed to offer a variety of enriching workshops for both parents and students. From STEM activities and literacy to the performing arts, there will be something for everyone.

Highlights include a performance by our talented high school New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) students, engaging theater improv sessions, and essential resources on navigating ParentSquare and exploring job opportunities within our district. We’ll also offer guidance on online safety, after-school and early childhood support programs, and nutrition—all while spotlighting our incredible community partners.

We hope you’ll join us for a morning filled with inspiration and connection. While many of our district’s visions for continuous improvement begin with me, it is the dedication and hard work of our leaders, teachers, and staff that bring them to life. I am confident our Saturday Academy will be an extraordinary experience, and your participation is key to our success as a community.

Old School Spelling Bee, Anyone?

I’m especially excited to share the launch of a district-wide spelling bee—an idea I’ve championed for years. For those who grew up in the 70s and 80s, you may remember the excitement of participating in your school spelling bee and the lasting impact it had.

Spelling bees are more than just competitions. They instill perseverance, discipline, and the value of preparation. Our students will expand their vocabulary, sharpen their spelling skills, and learn to thrive under pressure—all while supporting one another in a fun, encouraging environment.

A big thank you to Dr. Wilson for bringing this initiative to life! I can’t wait to watch our students shine and grow through this enriching experience.

Finally, I would be remiss if I didn’t share another exciting initiative happening behind the scenes—one that truly reflects the spirit of our district. As a team, our school and district leaders are reading The EQ Way: How Emotionally Intelligent School Leaders Navigate Turbulent Times. I recently picked up this book as part of my own journey toward growth and suggested a voluntary group reading to our leadership team. The immediate and enthusiastic response from every member warmed my heart and reaffirmed my belief in our shared commitment to personal and professional development.

I remain incredibly proud of our school district family and our collective dedication to investing in our children’s future while continuing to grow ourselves. Together, we can face challenges, celebrate successes, and foster a nurturing, empowering environment for all.

Thank you for being such an integral part of our community. I look forward to seeing you at the Rams Saturday Academy on April 26th from 8:30–10:30 AM!

Sincerely,

Dr. Aurelia Henriquez
Superintendent of Schools
