Port Chester is proud to celebrate a milestone moment in its Fine and Performing Arts program: the completion of the district’s first-ever Individual Arts Assessment Pathways (IAAP) by a group of talented high school students.

The IAAP is a New York State-approved 4+1 graduation pathway that allows high school students—typically in grades 11 and 12—to demonstrate their readiness for graduation through an arts-based sequence. Instead of completing a fifth Regents exam, students pursuing the IAAP complete three units of study in the arts, such as visual art, music, theater, or dance, and compile a culminating portfolio that highlights their artistic growth, technical skill, and creative process.

This alternative pathway provides an opportunity for students with a passion for the arts to earn a Regents diploma with a concentration in their chosen discipline. It also underscores the value of arts education as a rigorous and meaningful academic pursuit.

Under the guidance of Port Chester’s dedicated arts educators, students curated personal portfolios filled with original work, process documentation, and reflective writing. Their completion of the IAAP not only marks an academic achievement but also honors their commitment to creativity, expression, and growth.
Dr. Katherine Sinsabaugh, Director of Fine and Performing Arts, celebrated the accomplishment on social media:

“Our first-ever IAAP Pathways! Congratulations, PC Arts students! Thank you, teachers, for inspiring our kids and for all your work in helping to ensure that our kids completed the Pathways Honor.”

This landmark achievement represents a new tradition of excellence in the arts at Port Chester High School—highlighting the power of student voice, the importance of arts education, and the dedication of teachers who make these opportunities possible.
