Dear Ramily:

As we reflect on the end of spring and the start of a new season, I’m reminded of the vibrant celebration held yesterday, June 12—our Community in Bloom event. The gathering demonstrated the profound significance of “blooming where we are planted,” and served as a powerful showcase of the strength of the Port Chester community and our shared commitment to nurturing students and families.

Congratulations to Allison Fasano, a dedicated teacher at Port Chester Middle School, whose unwavering efforts have helped advance the district’s mission and vision. Allison’s deep embrace of the Community Schools philosophy reflects the spirit of collaboration and growth that defines Port Chester. Thank you to the incredible teachers, staff, students, parents, and community partners at Port Chester Middle School for coming together to create an event that left students and families inspired.

It was truly moving to hear so many stakeholders and officials express their admiration for the transformative initiatives happening in our district. Their words reaffirmed our collective commitment to supporting the whole child, the whole school, and the whole community. This progress would not be possible without the tireless dedication of our educators, leaders, and staff—each of whom plays a vital role in uplifting every student in our care.

Events like yesterday’s not only address essential needs—such as childhood nutrition—but also strengthen our mission to enhance student outcomes. I was reminded of the saying, “Maslow must come before Bloom.” As we work to deliver a rigorous curriculum, we must also ensure our students’ basic needs are met. This holistic approach is vital to creating an environment where every child can truly thrive.

The event was a beautiful reminder that we are one family, united in our mission to provide meaningful opportunities for every student. It is a true honor to work alongside the remarkable staff of the Port Chester School District, who consistently go above and beyond to support our students’ success.

As we continue to nurture our students, let us reflect on the words of Maya Angelou:

"Like flowers in spring, we rise—gently, boldly, and beautifully."

Our shared commitment to development and growth—like that of blooming flowers—depends on the care and encouragement we offer. Together, let’s continue cultivating a community where all students can flourish and reach their fullest potential.

With gratitude,

Dr. Aurelia Henriquez

Superintendent of Schools
