The district also partnered with Family Service Society of Yonkers (FSSY), Westchester’s leader in intergenerational volunteering, literacy and academic support programs, to implement a Summer Reading Buddies Program. New York State Senator Shelley Mayer and Legislator Nancy Barr visited to read with students.

“This is an opportunity for children to strengthen their literacy skills and avoid an academic regression over the summer break,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Aurelia Henriquez. “A very special shout out to Shelley Mayer and Nancy Barr, Dr. Tina Wilson, Elizabeth Baisley, FSSY, and the many educational leaders and volunteers who have made this an incredible summer of learning.”
