The auditorium buzzed with anticipation, as students, families, and faculty gathered for the Fine & Performing Arts Honor Society induction ceremony. An annual touchstone moment, the ceremony celebrates the leading talent and dedication of Port Chester High School’s music, theater and fine arts students.
To kick things off, orchestra students serenaded attendees with Maurice Ravel’s Boléro, arranged by Deborah Baker Monday.
Congratulatory remarks and words of wisdom were shared by Board of Education President Chrissie Onofrio and Deputy Superintendent of Schools Dr. Colleen Carroll.
Then it was time for formal introductions to the inductees and the awarding of certificates. Students’ names were read aloud by Kelly Keogan, Faculty Advisor for the National Art Honor Society; Christina Baurle, Faculty Advisor for the International Thespian Society; and Melissa Neyer, Faculty Advisor for the Tri-M Music Honor Society.
Rounding out the program, Supervisor of Fine & Performing Arts Dr. Katherine Sinsabaugh shared with students, “You have embarked on a lifelong adventure—one that you can cultivate on your own timeline, following your own path.”
On a personal note, she shared the following advice: “The wonderful part of being an artist is that you always have something new to learn. You will never know it all. Even when you think you have figured something out, you realize there is another way to express your voice. American cellist and humanitarian YoYo Ma said of arts learning, ‘When we enlarge our view of the world, we deepen our understanding of our own lives.’
Upon receiving their certificates, each group of inductees recited a pledge, promising to uphold their honor society’s duties and reaffirming their commitment to their craft.
Attached are the pledges that the inductees from each society made.
Please join us in congratulating the following inducted students, as well as the Fine & Performing Arts Department for encouraging their success.
