Over the past several weeks, the district has come alive with vibrant celebrations of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15–October 15), highlighting student talent, cultural pride, and the power of community connection.
PCHS Mariachi Los Carneros Bridges Generations through Music & Tradition
Port Chester High School’s very own Mariachi Los Carneros brought music, joy, and cultural pride to classrooms during their district-wide elementary school tour. Their performances not only delighted younger students but also sparked inspiration in the next generation of musicians, showcasing how music bridges cultures, ages, and traditions.
The ensemble also shined beyond our district, taking the stage at the Westchester Children’s Museum Hispanic Heritage Celebration. With every note, they proudly represented Port Chester, sharing the beauty and tradition of mariachi music with the wider community.
Salsa on the Playground at Park Avenue
Park Avenue Elementary students were treated to a lively salsa performance during a special assembly led by a local dance troupe. The celebration didn’t stop there! Out on the playground, the music continued as students joined in a spirited dance lesson. What began as recess quickly turned into a festive dance floor that brought Hispanic culture to life.
PCMS Takes an Interactive Journey through Hispanic Heritage
At Port Chester Middle School, Hispanic Heritage Month was celebrated through an interactive and immersive learning experience. Colorful posters lined the hallways, each highlighting a different location from one of the 21 Spanish-speaking countries, presented in both Spanish and English.
Teachers led students on guided poster tours, where classes explored cultural facts, answered questions, and submitted responses through Google Forms for a chance to win prizes announced on October 8.
This week on spirit day, students and staff wore clothing that represented their heritage, transforming the school into a living mosaic of cultural pride.
A Taste of Tradition at PCMS
Hispanic Heritage activities at Port Chester Middle School will conclude with the Annual Multicultural Dinner on Thursday, October 16, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM in the school gymnasium. Families are warmly invited to share in this culminating celebration of culture, community, and delicious food.
