The spotlight shone brightly on Port Chester Middle School’s young performers during the Junior International Thespian Society Induction Ceremony, held June 16 in the Archie Jacobs Auditorium. The celebration welcomed a new class of student artists into Troupe #89119 of the Educational Theatre Association, recognizing their dedication to the dramatic arts and their commitment to excellence in performance, leadership, and collaboration.
Founded on the mission to recognize student achievement in the theatre arts, the Junior International Thespian Society encourages young performers to develop their creativity, build character, and grow as leaders within an ensemble. Induction into the Society is a meaningful milestone—honoring not only talent, but also a student’s dedication to the core values of respect, responsibility, and artistic integrity.
The recent induction ceremony, organized by theatre advisors Rosemarie Veltri and Kathleen Farley, was a heartfelt celebration of the discipline, imagination, and camaraderie that define Port Chester Middle School’s performing arts program. Inductees were recognized not just for their onstage accomplishments, but for the many hours spent rehearsing, problem-solving, and supporting one another as part of a team.
“It is both an honor and a privilege to witness our students grow and mature as thespians,” said Mrs. Farley. “Their dedication to the arts shines through in every aspect—from memorizing lines and spending countless hours in rehearsal to delivering dynamic performances on stage. I am so proud of our students and look forward to working with them again next year. And to our eighth graders heading to high school, best of luck in your future theatre endeavors!”
“As a director, it is a true honor to congratulate our students on their prestigious induction into the Junior International Thespian Society,” added Ms. Veltri. “This distinguished recognition celebrates not only their impressive artistic growth, but also their steadfast commitment to theater as a collaborative and character-shaping art form. Through their passion, dedication, and teamwork, they elevated this year’s production and exemplified the transformative power of the dramatic arts. I look forward to their continued creative achievements.”
The ceremony also included reflections from high school theatre students, as well as inspiring remarks from Port Chester Middle School Principal Richard Leprine and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction Dr. Tina Wilson. Both speakers highlighted the role of the arts in cultivating confidence, empathy, and resilience—affirming that while these students’ theatrical journeys are just beginning, they are already leaving a meaningful mark.
Dr. Katherine Sinsabaugh, Director of Fine & Performing Arts, captured the spirit of the evening in a post on X (formerly Twitter):
“Wow! Amazing MS Jr. Thespian Induction ceremony! Thank you, Ms. Veltri and Mrs. Farley, for planning such an incredible event. Thank you, HS students, Mr. Leprine, and Dr. Wilson, for your inspiring words. PC students, we are so proud of you!”
As students recited the Thespian pledge and received their certificates, the auditorium echoed with applause. The evening stood not only as a celebration of artistic excellence, but also as a powerful reminder of theatre’s lasting ability to shape confident, compassionate, and collaborative young people.
