The Port Chester School District has been awarded a Learning Technology Grant from New York State to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its classrooms.

This initiative aligns with the district’s broader focus of promoting blended learning—a model that combines technology with traditional instruction to meet the diverse needs of all students. The program will offer personalized learning experiences aimed at helping students develop essential 21st-century skills, preparing them for success in today’s increasingly digital world.

According to Michael Ritacco, Director of Technology & 21st Century Learning, this innovative program will empower students to ask questions and seek answers, fostering deeper engagement in their learning. In partnership with LHRIC/BOCES (Lower Hudson Regional Information Center/Board of Cooperative Educational Services), district technology specialists, and other experts, the district will also provide professional development to teachers on how to effectively incorporate technology into their lessons, use data-driven instruction to track student progress, and create culturally responsive learning environments that support students' success both in school and in life.

“Overall, this AI grant initiative represents the next step in our district's ongoing commitment to enhance learning through technology and improve student outcomes,” Ritacco said.

For the first phase, which will run from January to June 2025, the district has been allocated $50,000. Depending on state approval, total funding over the next few years could increase to up to $250,000, positioning the district to build a sustainable, equitable, tech-rich educational environment for the future.

As this important work unfolds, updates will continue to be shared with the Port Chester School Community.
