It has been an exciting stretch for Port Chester High School’s band program, with students showcasing their talent through live performances, competitive success, and hands-on learning with professional musicians.

The PCHS Jazz Band recently welcomed Brighton Beat, a dynamic multi-instrumental ensemble, for an interactive workshop focused on improvisation and performance. Students worked one-on-one and in small groups with professional musicians before coming together as a full ensemble.

“They are very interactive with students and know how to tailor to their audience,” said Band Director Mr. Isaac Schneider. “The experience helped make improvisation more accessible while building confidence. The more exposure they have, the better.”

That growth was on display at the Sleepy Hollow Jazz Festival, where the Jazz Band returned to a longtime tradition for the first time since 2018. Students performed, participated in a clinic, joined a jam session, and attended an evening concert alongside other ensembles. Sophomore Andy Jimenez earned an Honorable Mention award for Outstanding Soloist.

Back on campus, the Night of Indoor Pageantry featured strong performances by the Jazz Ensemble, Indoor Color Guard, and Indoor Percussion. Both indoor groups capped off successful seasons, with the Color Guard placing fifth in their circuit and Indoor Percussion earning fourth place at the final championships at Westhill High School. The percussion group’s finish marked its highest finals placement since 2019, following a strong push from seventh place.
